zombie awareness month (with prizes!)

Wednesday, May 5, 2010 |

I know it’s not just me. It’s most of the rest of you too. But my ‘real life’ friends don’t get my reading habit-addiction-thing. Example: I was video chatting the other night with a friend (who happens to look like Matt Damon, and no I am not kidding, and yes, I know I am lucky), and he said, “Celia, you know the zombie thing? That’s kind of…weird.”

He was just trying to be helpful, really. And we discussed it at length, because I was surprised that it was a thing. But maybe it’s a little bit like, can I be ‘normal’ and fun and ridiculous and spontaneous and just keep that zombie reading habit in the closet, maybe? And that’s the reaction of the majority of my friends. I must have been better at hiding the nerd-geek in me than I thought.

BUT! On the blog I can do whatever I want, and what I want is to announce that today, besides being Cinco de Mayo, is one day in the awesomeness that is Zombie Awareness Month. I KNOW. Your life wasn’t complete until you read that, was it? I have ordered BUTTONS to commemorate this loveliness. I will have extras, even. So I’m going to create a Zombie Prize Pack to give away here at the blog. And honestly? I was inspired to do so by Velvet at vvb32reads, who sent me an amazing collection of zombie stuff last year when I won a contest. The blogosphere rocks it out. Back to prizes!

The Zombie Prize Pack contains:

Zombieland or Shaun of the Dead DVD [region 1] or Blu-ray

The New Dead: A Zombie Anthology by Christopher Golden

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: Dawn of the Dreadfuls by Steve Hockensmith

I Kissed a Zombie, and I Liked It by Adam Selzer

YA zombie novel of your choice

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies Postcard Book

Zombie Awareness Month buttons from the Zombie Research Society

…and whatever other zombie goodness I find in the month of May.

-------

To enter:

Leave a comment on this post telling me which YA zombie novel you’d choose to go in the prize pack if you win.

Please include your email address or another method of contact. Giveaway is open to the US & Canada only. Comments will close on May 31 at 11:59pm EST, and I will notify the randomly selected winner via email.

Good luck!

Well honestly the title I'd choose is not a YA. It's also a title that I have already read and really enjoyed. It's called Play Dead by Ryan Brown, and it's about a team of football playing zombies. I myself don't need a copy, as I have one, but it would be cool for another person to get a chance to read it.

Thanks for the great contest!

I'd have to pick I kissed a zombie and I liked it, since it is on my wish list!

Oh this is amazing. I agree with the first idea, Playing Dead. I really really want to read that now. It sounds amazing. And I understand how the blogosphere understands these things better than others sometimes.

Awesome contest! I would choose Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: The Graphic Novel by Seth Grahame-Smith and Tony Lee. (Hopefully graphic novels count) I think it will be great! Or I would choose Xombies: Apocalypse Blues by Walter Greatshell because I read it a while ago when it was only called Xombies. I thought it was amazing!

lol this is a great giveaway theme! The book I'd choose would most likely be Passing Strange, the third Generation Dead book by Daniel Waters. There's something about the series that I really enjoy, despite my not being a zombie person.

I am another Zombie fan. I recently finished "Breathers: A Zombies Lament" by S.G.Browne that I would highly recommend.
For a choice of book if I won I would have to go with Play Dead by Ryan Brown but if it has to be YA (which is fine by me) then I haven't read Generation Dead yet either.
Thanks for a great giveaway! :)

ZOMBIES!!! I get the same reaction from my friends. They give me this patient "Oh its a Lexie thing", pat me on my head and change the topic. Mind you I love Zombies in every form you can imagine and my collection puts most men to shame in its absolute awesomeness (DVD/comic wise).

That all being said...I own every YA zombie related book to come out except for I Kissed a Zombie and I Liked It. I'm looking forward to Passing Strange however, so I'd choose that if I won.

Out of curiousity Celia--have you read Christopher Golden's book Soulless? My sister recently got it for me, but I haven't had a chance to read it yet.

I've been really into zombies lately. Actually, my friend and I had a conversation about how we wouldn't be able to escape if we were attacked out in the open from my neighborhood when we had a walk a week ago. ...I'm still not sure how we even got to that topic :P

Anyway, if I won and got to choose a book, I'd pick You Are So Undead To Me by Stacey Jay.

Omg - I am a zombie NUT lol
I've really been enjoying these YA paranormals/mashups since I discovered them a year ago, and zombies are my absolute favorite, so thanks for such an uber awesome giveaway :)

I would pick The Forest of Hands & Teeth (although since there has been so many recommendations for Generation Dead series that I'm going to add it to my want list asap hehe)

I've not read I Kissed a Zombie and Liked It, but it sure sounds like something I would enjoy :)

I would pick Cluck: Murder Most Fowl (though I'm not sure if it is YA) because it seems so different. The reviews I read were all good and I think it would be funny since it's about chickens.
