waiting on wednesday (34)

Wednesday, August 8, 2012 |
I’m participating today in "Waiting On" Wednesday. It is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, and its purpose is to spotlight eagerly anticipated upcoming releases.

I don’t need romance with my sci-fi and fantasy.  I don’t need a trilogy to tell a story.  But what I like?  Great storytelling, an intelligent premise, and the potential for an epic, save-the-world sort of showdown.   I mean, every once in a while.  When I can get it.  Which isn’t as often as I’d like.  That may be why I’m looking forward so much to a book I don’t know much about – just that the synopsis sounds like it will be MY sort of book, and hey, that cover art is fantastic.  Pulse by Patrick Carman will be published by Katherine Tegen Books (HarperCollins), and will be released on February 26th, 2013.

pulse by patrick carman book coverThe year is 2051, and the world is still recognizable. With the help of her mysterious classmate Dylan Gilmore, Faith Daniels discovers that she can move objects with her mind. This telekinetic ability is called a “pulse,” and Dylan has the talent, too.

In riveting action scenes, Faith demonstrates her ability to use her pulse against a group of telekinesis masters so powerful they will flatten their enemies by uprooting street lights, moving boulders, and changing the course of a hurtling hammer so that it becomes a deadly weapon. But even with great talent, the mind—and the heart—can be difficult to control. If Faith wants to join forces with Dylan and save the world, she’ll have to harness the power of both.

Patrick Carman’s Pulse trilogy is a stunning, action-filled triumph about the power of the mind—and the power of love.

What books are you waiting on?

I agree with your line about storytelling and intelligent premise...the same thing always goes for me, which is why it's sad there's not more books like that out there. Anyhow, this one does sound very promising, and I'm adding it to my wish list right now! Great pick! :)

I am SO excited for this one. I loved his book Thirteen Days to Midnight enough that Patrick Carman is now on my auto-buy list. Doesn't hurt that Pulse sounds intense, and right up my alley. And I kind of love the cover a whole lot. The tree? Beautiful.

I stumbled across this one the other day on Goodreads. The cover intrigued me, but I added it to my to-read shelf after reading the synopsis. It definitely drew me and this sounds like my kind of book. Great pick! :)

That does sound very good! And no zombies or vampires or wolves - yay! Usually I get halfway through a blurb of a book that I think I'm going to love and they slip in something that turns me off. Mind powers - that I can handle. :)
